The Constitution of the United States of America sets forth:

"We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed."

Thankfully, We the People, the governed, have made known about various past legislation that we do not give our consent.  Most notably is the McCain/Kennedy Immigration Reform Bill of 2007.  We the People, the governed, emailed, called and wrote to protest the passage of this bill and, indeed, it did not pass.

Unfortunately, although We the People, the governed, emailed, called and wrote to protest Cap and Trade, this largest tax increase bill in history was passed by the House of Representatives -- thanks to eight Republican congressmen who voted for this bill which was opposed by the majority of Americans.  At least according to independent polls.

Why do our elected officials dismiss our concerns and wishes?  This is the question which must be asked before we again go to the polling booths in 2010.  But, in the meantime, we must continue to make our voices heard!  If we continue to be ignored, then the path will be clear in due time.

Because you are here today, we know you wish to be heard.  We ask that you sign up to get our continuing information and alerts as to when you need to take action by emailing, phoning or writing.

Here are some guidelines for making your voice heard.

• Choose your most important issues. Whether you are concerned about taxes, the economy, immigration, the war on terror, or any of the other major issues facing the USA, certainly including Obama's rush to Socialism, be realistic about how many you can support.  Emailing, phoning, contributing to blogs or contacting friends takes time. 
• Let the internet help you.  Bookmark your elected officials email contact form sites so you can quickly let them know your views.  Sign up for secure sites that will alert you when action is needed.  Keep a list of phone numbers in a doc or spreadsheet.
• Compose your email message ahead of time in a Word or other word processing document.  Then you can easily cut and paste this wording into your elected official's email form comments field.  Or visit FreedomWorks.org and choose the Take Action link.  Choose the Action Alert about which you wish to communicate and you will see a suggested message which you can copy and save to your doc to edit.  Freedomworks.org will even send an email or letter for you if you provide your contact information!
• Keep in mind most Representatives and Senators do not accept emails from non-constituents.  While we don't condone providing false information, you may want to find out the zip code of the elected official's home office and enter an address with this zip code. 
• Keep your message courteous, short and to the point.  It's helpful to say, "I believe" or "I request" rather than "You did" or "You are an *)Y^^(&*".
• Do not contact too often on the same issue.  Rather, contact about various important issues via email, phone or letter.  If you wish to email frequently, you may want to consider using more than one email address to avoid your email being considered as SPAM.

It is very important that we all make our voices heard.  At this time, we need to be respectful and focused.  There may come a time for turning ploughshares into pitchforks.  Let's hope not but many of us are aware this may become necessary.  It's time for you to think about what you are willing to do.
