That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed."
Thankfully, We the People, the governed, have made known about various past legislation that we do not give our consent. Most notably is the McCain/Kennedy Immigration Reform Bill of 2007. We the People, the governed, emailed, called and wrote to protest the passage of this bill and, indeed, it did not pass.
Unfortunately, although We the People, the governed, emailed, called and wrote to protest Cap and Trade, this largest tax increase bill in history was passed by the House of Representatives -- thanks to eight Republican congressmen who voted for this bill which was opposed by the majority of Americans. At least according to independent polls.
Why do our elected officials dismiss our concerns and wishes? This is the question which must be asked before we again go to the polling booths in 2010. But, in the meantime, we must continue to make our voices heard! If we continue to be ignored, then the path will be clear in due time.

It is very important that we all make our voices heard. At this time, we need to be respectful and focused. There may come a time for turning ploughshares into pitchforks. Let's hope not but many of us are aware this may become necessary. It's time for you to think about what you are willing to do.
