Working toward getting a fighting chance in Congress after 2010
Some details from the 300+ page addendum to the Crap and Tax bill that was handed down at 3:09 AM Friday morning.
The House of Representatives in Washington passed the Climate Change and
Energy Bill 6/26/09 with a 7 vote margin. Now on to the Senate, likely in
the fall.
Listed below are some of the details in the bill that the media will likely
not report so as not to inform the masses appropriately. This is the "cap
and trade bill" that was discussed and debated during the election. It
turned out to be much more. An amendment was added to the bill at 3:09 am
the morning of the vote that was over 300 pages. It was added to a bill that
was over 1,100 pages already. The final copy of the bill did not hit the
floor until mid-afternoon which didn't give many of the congressmen time to
read it to say the least.
Here are a few of the items that were covered on the floor of the House of
Reps. before the vote.
Please note; The majority of this bill will not go into effect until after
2012 (hopefully under a new, Republican administration.)
This bill will add 1.6 million green jobs TOTAL while it is estimated that
it will reduce jobs by 2.2 million per year between the years 2012 and 2020.
Carbon offset trading will be enabled though the definition is still not
clear. China could receive over $2 trillion in offsets from this bill making
it the largest amount of funds to ever leave the country at one time.
From the amendment; The "Secretary" in charge of administration of this
legislation will use "what ever funds are necessary to enable this act"
(blank check).
There are over 50 pages in the bill describing light bulbs that would be
allowed after 2012.
New home construction standards will follow CALIFORNIA CODES after 2012
(that's the way it is written). (You know, California, that state that
is bankrupt due to its far left policies on everything.)
EVERY HOME will have to have an energy audit before it can be built, before
it can be sold and before and after any additional construction. The bill
even calls out who shall do the inspections even though some communities do
not have these kinds of employees on their staff. The training they would be
required to go through was also covered. Real Estate appraisers will now
have to be federally certified in energy standards.
Fannie and Freddie get new "green" regulations too. Dollar for dollar
offsets for low income energy efficient mortgages.
The cost of home owner electricity is estimated to increase 40% around 2012
and as much as 90% by 2020, according to the CBO. During debate on the floor
the increased costs for energy claims ranged from $160 per person per year
to about $4,600 per person per year for personal energy. Quite a spread and
considering how inefficient the government is at running anything, hedge
towards the higher figure.
There is NO proposal in this bill for nuclear power.
The EPA estimates that this bill will reduce global warming by 0.2°F by the
year 2100.
The bill includes "programs to educate consumers if they don't buy enough
green energy products".
The bill includes requirements to buy "efficient water usage products".
The bill has a section in it that regulates derivatives.
The bill will require "green banking establishments be created."
From the debate; The cost of domestic steel will increase by 40% in 2012.
This will make domestic steel completely uncompetitive in the market. This
information was from the Congressman's steel plant which plans to shut down
if the bill passes. Hello imports…goodbye jobs.
The alternative amendment from the Republicans was voted down. The amendment
included stipulations for increased drilling for domestic oil and gas (both
onshore and offshore), increased nuclear power plant construction, increased
coal development, increased solar, wind and geothermal power, increased
alternative fuels, etc. In other words, an actual energy bill that would
decrease our dependence on foreign sources of fuel while also creating jobs
for America.
Contact your Senator and voice your thoughts on this matter prior to the
vote in the fall. It is critical that this legislation be shot down or
America is looking down the barrel of economic catastrophe.
